Inner Voice’s Major Programs
We can help men, women and families obtain temporary or permanent housing, counseling services, utility assistance, or get help maintaining housing when emergencies occur.
The Pioneer House (PH) Interim Housing Program provides housing for 13 adult males for up to 24 months with supportive services focused on comprehensive client-centered case management, stabilization and thorough assessments to assist participants with acquiring income and permanent housing. However, the goal of the program is to move program participants into permanent housing as quickly as possible.
The Supportive Housing Program (SHP) provides permanent housing, rental subsidies and case management to hundreds of homeless singles and families each year.
Chronic Homeless Initiative (CHI), Permanent Support Housing Program–The HUD funded CHI program serves the most vulnerable of homeless individuals. Many participants have severe mental illnesses and co-morbidity disorders. All participants lived on the streets and/or emergency shelters and come through the Chicago Central Referral System. The CHI program does not require any preconditions regarding sobriety or income for entry. In many cases, clients stop using drugs through alternatives as opposed to inpatient treatment. During the initial assessment, referrals to services, such as methadone clinics, outpatient services and self-help groups that would allow them to remain in permanent housing while addressing the barriers that affect their health and ability to remain stable, are offered.
A mandated IDHS program, Earnfare offers part-time employment and training to individuals receiving SNAP Benefits, along with vocational counseling and housing assistance.
The Social Security Administration funded Representative Payee Program provides case management, financial counseling and budgeting and housing/resource linkages approximately 40 individuals receiving Social Security benefits. Inner Voice directly pays landlords, utility companies and other vendors on behalf of program participants.
Emergency Assistance–Inner Voice currently administers emergency client assistance funds from the following organizations: FEMA, Emergency Food and Shelter Program, The Chicago Community Trust’s Jones Fund and The Emergency Fund
